The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for business tax transactions, analysis, and reporting. This role is a key Tax advisory and compliance role across our North American operations providing a key link between our transactional and financial reporting teams.


This position will develop and maintain processes to ensure the efficient, timely, and accurate filing of Sales and Use tax returns through professional judgement and research to determine the company’s tax filing and registration obligations.


Candidates should also possess strong experience in managing Sales Tax audits and ensuring compliance requirements are proactively managed. 



Tax responsibility and accountability across all entities support by Global Business Services (GBS) including: Terex USA LLC, Terex Canada Ltd, Utilities and Services, TGG, CMI, TFS, TMT, TAM and Powerscreen  in the following areas:

  • Provide input to the General Ledger group to reconcile sales and use tax accounts and resolve open items.
  • Capture and analyze sales reports from various operational systems to provide to accounting firm who submits monthly/Quarterly returns.
  • Manage the process of obtaining new and expiring sales tax exemption certificates.
  • Prepare property tax filings and payments.
  • Provide input to the General Ledger group to reconcile property tax accruals and payments.
  • Manage Unclaimed Property reporting.
  • Analyze freight bills related to Canada shipments to capture GST amounts to reclaim.
  • Manage all tax audits. Communicate with auditors and request information from business partners or pull key system information and reports in reponse to audit IDRs.
  • Support various projects as required.
  • Analyze and interpret Sales and Use tax regulations in conjunction with Terex’s business activities with an eye to optimize business tax compliance.
  • Deliver Sales and Use tax training to educate internal business partners (Controllers, Purchasing Managers and Buyers).
  • Create a User Manual/Reference Guide for Sales/Use tax to use as a training tool to assist in presentation and to use as a reference guide.
  • Coach and assist junior staff.
  • Support and Manage the mapping of taxability in Vertex and Oracle.


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of 4 years of Sales and Use and GST tax experience


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • Understanding of sales and use tax in a manufacturing company
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of GAAP
  • Experience with state guidelines and requirements for exempt sales and exemption certificates
  • Experience with problem solving and resolution
  • Public accounting and/or large manufacturer experience in tax
  • Experience in Oracle
  • Proficient in Vertex
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
