Shipping Supervisor

Position Overview

Responsible for all elements of shipping operations. This includes shipping, inventory management, safety, quality, cost and delivery.  Ensure area metrics and processes are developed and maintained to meet quality, safety and compliance requirements.  The position would communicate and coordinate with other departments to facilitate the transition of material into and out of the warehouse.

The position will be responsible for creating and implementing improvement ideas following lean manufacturing principles. They will mentor, coach and train team members to ensure the continuing development of area talent. The position will plan, organize and control the activities of the department to accomplish short and long term goals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery  
  • Drive operational improvements to align with company goals.
  • Establish and maintain department metrics to ensure results 
  • Identify and reduce variation in process to improve customer satisfaction and quality ultimately reducing cost and waste
  • Direct activities including, 5S Visual controls and improvement activities.
  • Develop department goals, tactics and objectives to ensure alignment with company strategy
  • Evaluate and expeditiously evaluate complaints and act on them in a timely manner
  • Ensure safety initiatives are followed
  • Train, develop, and coach direct reports in hiring, staffing levels, productivity, staff development, disciplinary actions and human resource policy
  • Ability to lead people, to pull teams together; to develop people and to lead independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in problem solving activities and creating change.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a continuously changing environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills: ability to create partnerships with suppliers and internal resources to support customer requirements.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and support of company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates high respect for people as individuals and as members of a company team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership skills that create an engaged Team Member environment
  • Warehouse management skills, with proven operations leadership experience preferred
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodology (lean manufacturing)
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of internal management, staff as well as outside clients and vendors
  • High degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion required
  • Exceptional communication and people skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Able and willing to change the status quo and effectively champion change
  • Experience with warehouse equipment and operating systems
  • Training in hazardous material requirements is a plus DOT certified.
