R&D Technician

Overview: 

Terex Utilities is a truck equipment final stage manufacturer of digger derricks, aerial devices and associated equipment for the utility industry, municipals, telecommunications, tree and electrical contractor markets.

 

This position is responsible for completing duties related to testing, troubleshooting and prototyping for projects assigned to the R&D department. These duties may be a combination of sedentary office work and physical labor located both indoor and outdoor. This position may support new products, existing products, or production facilitation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret requests for testing, work with the requestor of the test to develop a method to perform testing, carry out the functions of testing and write a factual based report on the results of the test.
  • Develop and build text fixtures as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair truck mounted aerial platforms, digger derricks and auger drills.
  • Assist with prototype builds including – boom assembly, prebuild subframe structures, install booms & subframe structure on chassis and install electrical chassis controller systems.
  • Custom part fabrication.
  • Work with production team members to resolve technical problems.
  • Problem solving, perform root cause analysis, and propose solutions.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Limited travel may be required

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or Experience:
    • Requires High Schol diploma or equivalent.
    • 2+ years of experience in an Industrial environment or Large Equipment Repair
    • 2+ years of experience with hydraulic systems or hydraulic equipment
    • 2+ years of experience in troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems

 

  • Training:
    • Welder certificatin - Possess or be able to obtain within 1 year
    • CDL License - Pssess or be able to obtain within 1 year

 

  • Skills:

Required:

    • Strong attention to detail and organization.
    • Must possess good mechanical aptitude.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Proficient in basic computer skills.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
    • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
    • Demonstrate ability to communicate and understand general instruction to achieved desired outcome.
    • Ability to read hydraulic, electrical and welding schematics.
    • Proficient in diagnostics and repair of hydraulic and electrical systems.
    • Be knowledgeable in working with all basic shop tools.
    • Ability to safely and efficiently operate welding equipment, forklifts and overhead cranes.

Preferred:

    • Knowledgeable with the design and operation of aerial devices, digger derricks and auger drills.
    • Knowledgeable with all aspects of building aerial devices, digger derricks and auger drills.
    • Experience with machining equipment. Both CNC and manual control.
    • Experience working with testing equipment and sensors.
    • Fluid Power Society Certification.
    • Experience with basic PLC setup and programming.
    • Knowledgeable in 2D & 3D design software, flow, and workings. (AutoCAD, Solidworks)

 

  • Physical Activity Level:

Physical requirements of the job are classified as medium to heavy.  Medium to heavy work is defined as exerting 20 to 100 pounds of force occasionally (0-2.5 hrs/day); and/or 25 to 40 pounds of force frequently (2.5-5.5 hrs/day); and or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly (5.5+ hrs/day) to move objects.  Physical demand requirements are in excess of Light work.
