Continuous Improvement Manager

Position Description: 

This position will be responsible for leading a technical team in developing and applying reliable manufacturing engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of manufacturing technical problems. This team member will be required to design and implement new manufacturing methodologies for material handling, machining, welding, paint and assembly. They will also be required to maintain detailed documentation and effectively communicate with the operations, design and technical support teams. Considerations for safety, quality and delivery are required in all manufacturing engineering decisions. The team member should be able to perform within the principles of Lean Manufacturing, Just-in-Time and Total Quality Management systems/processes. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with leadership to define and lead key improvement projects for the Utilities business
  • Responsible for the quality of work, reliability, schedule (if appropriate), cost and delegation of tasks on one or more projects and/or Team Members
  • Acts as a mentor to lower level engineering staff and models problem solving skills with a proven ability to develop others
  • Actively participate in all systems manufacturing planning, including capital investments, product design issues, resource allocation, plant lay out and quality issues
  • Shares responsibility for the effect of technical decisions/judgments on program schedules or goals critical to the organization with other engineers and managers
  • Improve product quality and reduce cost throughout analysis of production methods, processes, and optimum utilization of personnel
  • Measures, documents, and communicates progress towards meeting objectives. Creates and maintains communication materials, A3s, charters, report-outs, graphical display of metrics, etc, to communicate progress of Metrics for all levels of the organization.
  • Works with site management team to develop strategies and programs that improve the productivity and efficiency of the various work processes of the company
  • Ensures completion of administrative reporting, including metrics, budgeting, and forecasting project financial performance
  • Manages projects and maintains responsibility for the planning, coordination, implementation, execution, tracking, delivery, control, and completion of such projects
  • Creates project documentation to track and mitigate risks
  • Identifies long-term improvement and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Participates in deploying the improvements that align with meeting annual goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or bachelor’s degree with relevant experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years leadership, supervisory or management experience
  • Formal Lean Manufacturing training/certification
  • High Level of experience implementing lean principles, tools and methods
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, providing options and recommendations relating to resolving issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability for writing concisely and clearly.
  • High level of proficiency of PDCA in project management and problem solving
  • Experience leading projects involving cross functional teams.
  • Knowledge of the importance of standardization and experience in leading groups and organization build standardized work at various levels.
  • Ability to influence people at all levels through collaboration and relationship building.
  • Project Management skills.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office suite: Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, and Excel.
