Service Apprentice

Genie UK are the UK’s largest provider of scheduled maintenance, equipment repairs and technical support for powered access platforms. We have an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to join our team on a 3-year programme.

The successful candidate will be starting an NVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship in Lift Trucks and Powered Access support by PSR / Genie.  Attendance at college in blocks is required with accommodation provided.  Time away from college will be spent completing work-based skills and developing knowledge of our business and products, working within our Technical Services department and alongside our current technicians. The duration of the apprenticeship is 3 years.

On this apprenticeship they will learn how to service and repair machines and equipment including replacing parts and checking and calibrating instruments.  During the work-based element this knowledge will be expanded and put into practice with our specialist equipment (Aerial Work platforms).


The Apprentice will be assessed via a combination of classroom-based theory and workshop-based practical’s, plus individual tutorials and periodic progress reviews to include 

  • Written and practical assessments (mapped to Diploma and NVQ Diploma competence levels)
  • Site visits
  • Assessments


The Apprentice will be fully supported via a mentor as well as spending one on one time with our highly skilled technicians.  On successful completion of Level 3 the apprentice will be offered a Full time Trainee Field Service Technician position with ongoing training and career development, and will be expected to step up and provide the Aftermarket Service Department mechanical and technical support Servicing and Repairing of Genie and non-Genie MEWP products.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities:


  • Block attendance at College, completing all work expected and ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Support thorough examination and certification and support the mandatory inspections on all Genie models to a LOLER standard
  • Working with the engineering team and support in Servicing and Repairing of machines at depots as required to ensure conformance with manufactures specifications and company policy
  • Learn how to create customer quotes and reports
  • Deal with customers and suppliers; as a Terex/Genie representative always providing a high standard of Customer Care and being polite at all time
  • Learning to fit new parts as required, or as part of regular replacement Rota
  • Supporting in pre-delivery inspections (PDI) of machines at depots as required, and in conformance with manufactures specification, company policy and the regulations affecting use
  • Checking and calibrating instruments to make sure they accurate
  • Marking out, cutting and drilling items with power tools
  • Welding parts together using oxyacetylene, MIG and TIG methods
  • Supporting with the Inspection and testing wiring and circuitry and replacing faulty parts
  • Carrying out basic quality checks
  • Learning to accurately completing all relevant paperwork and reports including Inspection/Production/Service sheets
  • Other workshop duties including the unloading/loading of machines, accurate part ordering and storage
  • Work flexibly to perform any other tasks required by Terex AWP EMEAR that are within the employee’s skills and abilities pursuant to the position





PSR / Genie will be looking for someone who is motivated, committed for the duration of the Apprenticeship, hardworking and willing to learn all aspects of the business. 


  • Computer skills are desirable as this will not only support at College but also within the business
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication skills
  • A good understanding written and verbal of the English language



Education / qualifications:

The recommended level for this Apprenticeship is four GCSE Grade D or higher.







Previous experience:


It is desirable that applicants have some hands-on engineering experience however this is not a must.
