Tooling Machinist

Rock Hill, SC, US

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  This position will responsible for the manufacturing and repair of weld, machining, and assembly fixtures across all value streams.  Team Member will also fabricate components for various improvement projects as well providing technical support to the manufacturing team. 

 

  • Sets up and operates all tooling machinery in a safe and proficient manner.
  • Analyzes manufacturing and tooling problems and formulates solutions.
  • Designs simple milling, drilling, welding, and assembly fixtures.
  • Checks fabricated tools against established tolerances.
  • Fabricates parts as assigned.
  • Documents the projects and fixtures built.
  • Checks all parts built to established tolerances.
  • Delivers completed tool to manufacturing then trains team members on its use.
  • Assembles fixtures, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems with minimal assistance.
  • Utilization of applicable shop measuring equipment.
  • Inventories and makes requests to order consumables (taps, bits, reams, etc.).
  • Maintains and repairs existing production fixtures.
  • Carries out ECN’s pertaining to fixture modifications.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Accredited GED
  • 2 years of Machining experience in a manufacturing setting 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to set up and operate all machine shop equipment (saws, milling machine, drill press, lathes, hydraulic press, and powered hand tools)
  • Ability to read complex part drawings and how to establish sequential fabrication steps
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools (calipers, gauges, micrometers, hardness testers, height gauges)
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing materials properties
  • Basic understanding of welding techniques and processes
  • Understanding of fixture assembly components (clamps, dowel pins, drill bushings, and various other fixture fasteners)
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Determine manufacturability of designs, provide feedback, and give suggestions on designs
  • Ability to work from hand sketches
  • Good knowledge of shop math and machine tolerances
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, CNC Programming, and Solidworks)
  • Ability to multitask, work with little direction, and react to rapid changes in a manufacturing environment
