Manufacturing Engineer Co-op, Tooling

REAL WORLD RESPONSIBILITIES:

During your time with us you will:

  • Design and oversee the construction of work holding for welding and machining procedures.
  • Work closely with various other facilities to develop and document tooling and equipment for development and implementation both out of region and locally. 
  • Update CAD per “as built” redlines.
  • Participate in the installation and sequencing of machines, workstations, tools, and supplies to optimize the efficiency of the manufacturing process.
  • Develop and or duplicate manufacturing tooling and equipment based on engineering drawings and/or pictures.
  • Perform quality checks and measurements to validate tools and fixtures
  • Prepare documentation for training and operation as well as maintenance manuals for equipment that is developed.
  • Study manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, assembly, and weld processes
  • Gather and analyze process information including cycle times, measurements, test results, trends, etc., used for statistical process control, cost analysis, and planning. 
  • Research and analyze design proposals for ability to manufacture on a basis that minimizes waste and cost.  Suggest design modifications to facilitate production. 
  • Apply statistical measures to estimate future manufacturing requirements. 
  • Research and recommend work holding and tool design methods to ensure consistent quality for the manufacturing teams.
  • Participate in cross-functional design review meetings to ensure all solutions will achieve the customers safety and productivity needs
  • Participate with Design Engineers to discuss and evaluate new product design or re-design and manufacture. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

MUST HAVES:

  • Currently pursuing a ABET accredited bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Technology Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or similar field or graduated within last two years
  • Able to work full-time 40 hours per week for 3 months in Redmond, WA
  • Comfortable working in a high-speed production environment
  • Working knowledge of basic office programs (Excel, Project, Word, Etc)

 

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Are adaptable, innovative, and proactive
  • Prior experience designing tooling or equipment.  Working knowledge of how to properly hold and locate parts for a weld process.  Working knowledge of basic machine design and power systems.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks, Autocad or equivalent CAD programs. 
  • Working knowledge of CMM or other precision measuring tools and software
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Basic project planning experience and the ability to convert designs into project action plans. 
  • Sufficient human relations skill to convey technical engineering concepts to others; and technical employees; and to work cooperatively with internal and external customers. 
  • Technical writing skills sufficient to prepare product specifications, test, and process documentation. 
  • Hands on experience CNC equipment such as Lathes and Mills preferred (Programming, Optimizing, troubleshooting, etc.)
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics, blueprints.
  • Ability to conduct mathematical exercises using physics, algebra, analytic geometry, and statistical analysis. 
  • Ability to learn and perform within the principles of Lean Manufacturing, Just-in-Time, and Total Quality Management.
  • Ambulatory ability to walk and stand on a continuous basis; to bend, stoop, and kneel on an intermittent basis; to lift medium weight objects up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
