Human Resources Director, Genie Operations

Redmond, WA, US

The HR Director for Aerial Work Platform Operations (Genie) provides HR leadership and guidance on HR activities to the leadership teams for Operations, Strategic Sourcing and Engineering. Serves as a strategic busienss partner to the VP of Global Operations and Engineering in driving strong and consistent HR practices across sites and functions.  Partners with the Genie Vice President of Human Resources to elevate the level and functioning of the AWP HR practice and helps to promote Genie as an employer of choice. Serves as a strategic partner and provides coaching and guidance to leaders.  Works closely with managers and HR team members to ensure that recurring HR processes, such as staffing, employee relations, talent/performance management or salary review processes, are robust and efficient and able to serve the needs of a dynamic business. Pro-actively addresses employee relations issues and serves as the "voice of the employee" to senior leadership. Pro-actively works to manage change, ensure quality of talent and foster team alignment.



  • Understanding, developing and supporting the strategic initiatives of the business, including organizational design, staffing, training, etc.
  • Serve as the strategic HR business partner to the VP of Global Operations and Engineering and his/her direct reports.
  • Plan, coordinate, perform, and participate in day-to-day Human Resources Management activities for assigned sites and functions.  Oversee the assigned HR teams, providing leadership, guidance and coaching to HR team members.
  • Model the Terex Way Values and promote them in all interactions with team members, peers and customers. 
  • Work closely with temporary agency services to determine the most effective staffing levels and effective staffing measures. Ensures robust staffing processes are in place to meet seasonal and cyclical hiring surges.
  • Assure Team Members receive excellent Human Resources services by developing and maintaining effective and capable site HR teams.
  • Spend significant time on the shop floor at assigned sites, building relationships with all Team Members, identifying opportunities to improve engagement and reduce unwanted turnover.
  • Participates in salary surveys and makes recommendations.
  • Identify programs and procedures to support team member development and involvement i.e. tuition reimbursement, career paths, community service programs and events.
  • Interprets and support corporate/ departmental policies and procedures governing safety, professional ethics and the company's handbook. Develops and deliver training programs.
  • Maintains their Human Resources professional and technical knowledge through cross training and participation on special projects. Must be able to multi task and demonstrate flexibility based on changing requirements of the business.
  • Advise and assist management in communicating with team members on human resources matters, being sensitive to team members' needs and morale; reporting on the same with recommendations to maintain sound employee relations to promote a union free environment.
  • Manage corporate HR projects and/or functions as assigned (i.e. unemployment claims, Worker's Compensation, recognition, as well as improvement projects).
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.



  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years of Human Resources experience 
  • 5+ years of Human Resources leadership experience



  • Degree in Business, Human Resources or Psychology
  • Experience working in both Union and non-Union facilities
  • Experience with progressive HR Generalist responsibilities
  • Experience in Staffing, Training, Compensation, Employee Relations and administrative support functions
  • Experience with administration and coordination of compensation programs and employee performance review programs
  • Ability to interface with all levels of management as well as team members in the office and on the shop floor
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking, strategic and analytical skills needed, as well as the ability to successfully execute strategies in support of the business goals
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles
