Director of Environmental, Health and Safety

Overview:

Genie Aerial Work Platforms is seeking an outstanding HS&E leader to provide strategic leadership to all AWP organizations globally with primary responsibility for achieving safety and environmental performance objectives and compliance to all applicable regulatory standards. One of the most important tasks will be to develop segment-wide safety and environmental systems and integrating our HSE improvement strategy with long term strategic business and marketing planning. Areas of responsibility also include development of HSE communication and alignment of HSE improvement plans for the segment. Overall, this position’s purpose is to strengthen our HSE management to ensure world-class results by promoting sharing of knowledge, group transparency, HSE professional development and a safety culture. The successful candidate will assure environmental compliance, environmental and process optimization, process hazards mitigation and workplace environmental quality. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must internalize and model the Terex Way Values, be open and fair-minded and show an appreciation of the needs of different cultures and practices and the ability to help individual locations prioritize and focus on the most important improvement opportunities.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the global Genie HSE organization by driving collaboration and team work across all functions. Partner with the Genie leadership team to ensure the goal of Zero Harm is realized.
  • Improve AWP HSE performance, reduce injuries through engineering and administrative controls and improved training and through the development of the Environmental Health and Safety Team and Leadership Teams.
  • Implement and optimize the AWP Compliance Management System
  • Improve and optimize manufacturing and administrative processes to eliminate complexity. Support manufacturing functions through process engineering and compliance assistance.
  • Manage Terex’s relationship with local governments and the community at large.
  • Lead the AWP segment safety council and actively participate in and contribute to the Terex corporate HSE council. 
  • Coordinate Phase I and Phase II investigations for real property transactions, review documents, and assist in environmental cleanups.
  • Provide guidance to optimize processes with environmental impact, assist in improvement of material efficiency for all manufacturing processes.
  • Effectively interface with local governments, non-governmental organizations, and community and neighborhood associations.
  • Support all remote site AWP segment environmental and safety functions.
  • Identify risks to human health and the environment, prioritize and mitigate to the greatest extent possible. Advise site managers on the requirements for environmental and safety compliance.
  • Develop and mentor a professional team of HSE Managers and advisors who will identify and implement best practices within their sphere of influence.
  • Implement Terex wide metrics and establish segment metrics for the AWP Segment, analyze results, and guide the Terex AWP team in appropriate actions required to facilitate a continuous improvement culture.
  • In conjunction with all of the AWP Leadership Team, undertake responsibility and accountability to consider health and safety implications of all strategic and tactical business decisions, and implement plans to ensure a safety first approach.
  • Coach each individual business unit in the development and execution of robust annual HSE Improvement plans.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 10 years leadership experience in Environmental, Health and Safety

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health, Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene or Engineering
  • Experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Experience in managing multiple facilities in diverse geographies
  • Change agent, who is results-oriented and leads an organization through his/her own inspiration and example
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast paced, continuous improvement environment and be hands on when necessary, yet see the big picture on a global basis
  • Ability to apply the necessary techniques, such as hazard identification, determination of failure rates, root cause analysis and consequence analysis
  • Track record in meeting HSE performance objectives, particularly reducing injuries
  • Strong project management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong quantitative and analytical capability
