Traffic Coordinator - Logistics

This position directs and plans daily freight moves, directs the daily operational activity of transportation companies, and contributes to Genie's success by providing transportation expertise to shipping teams located in Genie plants.  Also importantly this position responds to customer requests for information.


Responsibilities and Scope:


 This position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Global Systems and interfaces with the global and domestic site management teams on a daily basis to achieve the following;

  • Directs and plans daily freight moves both Inbound & outbound across North American and global facilities.
  • Directs and controls the daily operational activity of transportation companies.
  • Provides transportation & freight management expertise to shipping teams located in our North American facilities.
  • Pro-actively manages & responds to Internal and external customer requests for information.
  • Provides business performance KPI’s relating to carriers, site, & freight modes based on costs, OTD and volumes.
  • Compliance with control points for Revenue recognition, Trade compliance, Site & Local regulations & controls.
  • Assists with inbound international ocean freight management, and local West Coast deliveries from the Port.
  • Responsible and accountable for Finished Goods Inventory status and works with Logistics, OPS or Sales to release available inventory for shipment on the ground in Moses Lake.
  • Assists in the management of site specific financial controls related to shipping, invoice recognition and proper shipping documentation – including Bills of Lading, and Canadian Customs invoices. 
  • Responsible and accountable for daily freight invoicing accuracy through established process controls and audits.  Position will work closely with Plant Controller during audits.    
  • Directs transportation companies in meeting AWP freight management requirements (e.g., proper trailer configuration, load securing, cross-Canadian border requirements, documents).
  • Provides transportation expertise to plant shipping teams to reduce shipping costs, reduce lead times, and comply with shipping regulations.  This activity focuses on line side feed, air, parcel, LTL, Ocean and TL shipping modes.
  • Supports domestic and international shipping throughput and tracks and monitors shipping team performance/efficiency metrics. 
  • Responds to customer inquiries and resolves shipping issues including tracking and tracing, freight damage, and cost.  Escalates issues as appropriate.
  • Reports any inbound freight damages to the Logistics Team and tracks any damage trends.
  • Ensures, thorough communication with transportation companies, that trucks arrive on-site to meet shipping demand.
  • Supports operational reviews of transportation providers by maintaining transportation metrics related to on-time performance and shipping capacity provided.
  • Reviews freight bills and resolves discrepancies related to service performance or shipping tariffs.
  • Trains new shipping team members in use of tools and processes used in freight shipping (e.g., UPS Worldship).
  • Identifies opportunities for freight savings and lead time reduction.
  • Occasional travel may be required.




Basic Qualifications:


-Minimum two-year’s experience in logistics/transportation required.



Preferred Qualifications:


-Knowledge of international shipping requirements, documentation, and export/import administration

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to relate well to a wide variety of people in a professional and diplomatic manner
-4 year BS Degree Preferred
-DOT, IATA, HazMat knowledge/experience

-Oracle and MS Office skills-strong Excel skills

-Understanding of “Lean” concepts and strong orientation toward safety, quality, and process improvement 

-Detail-oriented with great organizational and problem solving skills
-Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions
-Strong knowledge of Genie products and the transportation industry
