Principal Engineer - Welding

Moses Lake, WA, US

About the Job

Responsible for assuring compliance to AWP welding standards across the AWP manufacturing facilities. This includes:

  • Welder qualification process and record retention
  • Welding process standards
  • Support of new startup operations in both US and Mexico.  This will include project management responsibilities of weld operations setup in new AWP Mexico manufacturing location. 
  • Develop welding processes for new product development (NPD) and for current products with intense focus on achieving safety, quality, and cost targets.
  • Provide welding technical support to global operations to address safety, quality, or cost issues.
  • Development and deployment of automated welding processes.


About You

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineering from ABET accredited university (Welding or Welding Technology is strongly preferred)
  • 5+ years experience with destructive and non-destructive testing
  • Direct hands on experience with GMAW/MIG is required.
  • Ability to develop and deploy technical policies across organizations
  • Technical expertise to perform root cause analysis
  • Ability to teach, develop, document, update, and improve work processes
  • Prior experience development and deploy Procedure Qualification Records (PQR’s) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, different shifts, and travel, on short notice as necessary
  • Candidate must be able to travel 20% of time both domestically and internationally (as early as Mexico in June)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work in Moses Lake, WA
  • 5+ years of Project Management Experience
  • Solidworks experience
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • CWI qualification
  • Experience enforcing weld standards in manufacturing environment
