Shipping Clerk - 1st Shift

Position Overview:

This position supports Utilities Operations by performing a variety of work related to the shipping, receiving and material control throughout the shop. Responsible for safe loading & unloading of trucks, Outside Processing (OSP) shipments & Supplier deliveries. Various paperwork creation & transaction entry. Majority of workload is forklift driving, computer use and communication.



  • In general, a Huron Shipping Clerk will specialize in certain daily tasks & be capable of performing all tasks relative to Shipping & Receiving.
  • Load & unload trucks, paperwork creation, transaction entry.
  • Loading of flatbeds requires knowledge related to ensuring a secure, balanced load in transit.
  • Maintain safe, clean & organized work area. Ensure docks are kept clear of materials.
  • Work under general supervision. Duties may change within department due to immediate needs & cross-training requirements.
  • Ability to work professionally & productively with Team Members. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety requirements/policies.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Forklift License (inhouse certification)
  • Basic Microsoft Software skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)


Specific Competencies:

  • Operate forklift within Terex Utilities forklift policy (Telehandler & Skid-Steer also encouraged)
  • ASI (ERP Software)
  • General knowledge of parts and understanding of materials flow within plant


Physical Job Requirements of the Job:

Physical requirements of the job are classified as medium to heavy. Physical demand requirements are in excess of light work. Medium to heavy work is defined as:

  • exerting 20 to 100 pounds of force occasionally (0-2.5 hrs./day); and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently (2.5-5.5 hrs./day); and or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly (5.5+ hrs./day) to move objects. 
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - facemask required during COVID pandemic.
  • Exposure to all kinds of weather.
