Materials Manager

Position Title:            Materials Manager

Reporting To:            Senior Operations Director

Location:                    Dungannon

Hours of work:          39.75 Hours (8.00AM – 5:00PM Monday – Thursday, 8.00AM – 2.15PM Friday)

 

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager this position will be responsible for ensuring that the materials delivery systems are in place to enable the efficient flow of material to support production demands of a multi-site manufacturing environment.  This position will also be responsible for the materials information flow with the Terex materials management system; Kanban, JIT deliveries and PFEP. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan, direct and coordinate programs and processes to ensure material availability and delivery in support of manufacturing on a daily basis.
  • Manage and develop a team to ensure goals and objectives of the organization are met and that a safe work environment is provided for team members
  • Institutionalise and lead best business practices through lean manufacturing thinking and The Terex Way.
  • Gather information to evaluate current work processes in order to determine the optimal flow of materials information and develop strategies and programs that improve the productivity and efficiency of materials flow within the company.
  • Converts production control planning and scheduling programs to meet materials forecasts and to balance the level of inventory to support manufacturing.
  • Coordinate material requirements planning using lean manufacturing methodology.
  • Performance Management of all Team Members in your area of responsibility.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and continually improve material flow requirements – root cause shortages and demonstrate flexibility to meet short and long term objectives.
  • Develop and maintain PFEP database.
  • Control production/materials costs and spend to within budget and assist in setting departmental budgets.
  • Manage the delivery of customer ready quality to both internal and external customers with zero defects.
  • Oversees and maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure just-in-time deliveries to support manufacturing requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.
  • Exercise judgment to take action within existing policy, strategy, and business conditions.
  • Ensure compliance to all general site Rules, Regulations, and Policies.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility to accept and fulfil any other reasonable duties that may be required from time to time

 

Experience Essential

 

  • Minimum of 2 years previous leadership experience gained in Logistics, Scheduling, materials Inventory Control or Production Control - within a high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and proven track record of Supervisory and /or people management is essential.
  • Experience and accomplishments in constructing, managing, and continuously improving a materials flow process that is in accordance with accepted JIT practices and lean manufacturing concepts.
  • A practical understanding of lean manufacturing with ability to coach and practice Flow, Level Pull, TAKT adherence, JIT, Problem Solving, Continuous Improvement techniques, Visual Management and Synchronous Material Flow systems (PFEP, Kanban).
  • Excellent problem solving skills and change management.
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office packages.
