Engineer Mechanical Design Senior

Overview

This is a lead product engineering role for the Terex Hydra Platform products and will be responsible for developing and applying reliable engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems.

Responsibilities

Implement technical projects in the design, development, testing and documentation of bridge inspection platform products.  Perform design and analysis of steel and aluminum components, welded structures, and electrical and hydraulic control systems.  Develop new designs from initial concept to implementation and improve existing designs.  Verify and document compliance with applicable ANSI and international standards.  Organize component and machine testing, create procedures and detail processes for testing. Mentor design engineers and promote a dynamic and creative engineering work atmosphere.  Document designs with solid part models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.  Verify designs using traditional analytical methods in conjunction with dynamic and finite element analysis software.  Create and maintain complete machine product structures including bills of materials, Models and Options, and service parts information.  Research, specify and test manufactured and purchased parts working closely with the materials group and suppliers.  Maintain a focus on design for manufacturability and work closely with the ME department and production facility to assist in product and process improvements.

Qualifications

- ABET accredited B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology with a US state EIT certificate
- 5+ years of experience in machine design
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient with solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred)
- Excellent PC skills including Excel and Word
- Experience in the process of manufacturing heavy equipment or related industry
- Ability to organize and sequence work associated with complex designs
- Demonstrated team player qualities with ability to motivate and train others
- Experience with engineering changes and documentation processes
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Structural and stability analysis experience including FEA
- Experience with electrical and hydraulic control circuit design
- Strong orientation towards safety, quality, and continuous improvement
 
Desired Skills:
- Ability to create and perform detailed component and machine testing procedures
- Knowledge of road approval certification and requirements
- Ability to work on the shop floor
- Understanding of and commitment to Lean Manufacturing
